I've found a bird
Birds make up the majority of the animals we rescue.
Any bird that is not flying and can be caught should be taken to the vet for assessment, pain relief and further care. For transport, place the bird on a towel in a box or carrier. Alternatively, you can call us on 0414 717 374 option 1 and we will send a rescuer. Some birds are hard to catch and we may need to bring a net or a trap.
If you have found a baby bird that has fallen off the nest, please call us and we will discuss with you the options for renesting. It is always exciting to see babies reunited with their parents!
Fledglings are often found on the ground when they are just learning to fly and it is important not to kidnap them. Watch and wait patiently to see if the parents are nearby. If they are, the kid is fine and there is no need to intervene.
If the little bird cannot be renested or reunited with family and needs to come into care, please drop off at the vet or call us! In the meantime, place him on a towel in a box and keep him warm with a bit of extra heat if possible (a warm water bottle or wheat bag works well).
