There are many ways to volunteer with us! Whatever your interest and availability, we can match you with an activity that will help the widlife and our organisation! Check out the options below.
Become a wildlife carer
Caring for wildlife is a rewarding experience as you can make a direct impact on the lives of animals and learn more about our amazing wildlife. What animals are you interested in? We always need more carers for birds, flying foxes, frogs, macropods, microbats, possums, reptiles and small mammals.
You will need to attend our species specific training where you will learn how to care for sick, injured or orphaned wildlife in your home. Our training will equip you with the knowledge and skills to provide essential care, including species identification, handling, feeding, housing, medical care and rehabilitating animals until they are ready for release back into the wild.
Caring for wildlife can involve looking after tiny orphaned animals or providing a safe space for recovering adult animals. Whether you have a small or large space, a lot of time or not much time at all, there are many ways to contribute and make a difference.
It is important to be realistic when you become a wildlife carer - not all the animals will make it, even when we try our hardest.
Join the rescue team
Join our Wildlife Rescue team and learn how to rescue native wildlife safely! You will need to attend training to learn a variety of techniques to capture, handle, contain and transport various species of wild animals safely, for you and for them. Depending on your interests and abilities, you might wish to rescue tiny baby birds, large macropods or any animal in between. We need rescuers in all areas.
We would love to increase our rescue team to ensure that all animals referred to us can be rescued promptly and safely. Please help us achieve this goal!
Volunteer in other ways
There are plenty of other ways to contribute! We always need volunteers to help with:
- Fundraising – Assist in securing vital funds to keep our rescue efforts running
-
Administration – Help support our team behind the scenes, for instance by taking a position on the Committee
- Events – Help run market stalls for community outreach and spread awareness about our work and the plight of wildlife
- Gardening - Maintain the Centre's garden bed and mow the lawn
- Cleaning - Keep the Centre clean and tidy
- Shop - Help at the Shop on Sunday mornings
- Craft and resources - For instance knitting bird nests and sewing bags, building possum boxes, repairing cages, etc
- Tradies - If you are a plumber, electrician, painter, etc, we might be able to use your help in our Centre
-
Release site - If your land would be suitable to provide a safe haven for possums and macropods, we’d love to hear from you!
Make a difference today!
