I've found an echidna
Echidnas are territorial and if they are not injured, it is best to leave them alone and allow them to go back to where they come from. Young echidnas move around, looking for new territory during the dry season and again, if they are not injured it's best to let them find their new home. Female echidnas leave their babies (called puggles) in shallow dens, so it is essential that they are not moved away or their babies will starve.
Echidnas who have been hit by a car or attacked by dogs are likely to suffer injuries (often to the nose or quills) and they should be taken to the vet. If you are not able to catch and transport the echidna, call us on 0414 717 374 option 7 and we will gladly come and help!
If you find an echidna in your yard, leave him alone and keep your dogs out of the way. He will very likely move off during the night. If not, call us!
