I've found a flying fox
Flying foxes get themselves in trouble in many ways (eg. orphans, barbed wire, dog attacks) and it's important to always call an experienced vaccinated rescuer for help. Please do not try to handle flying foxes yourself as you may get scratched or bitten. Please call asap on 0414 717 374 option 5. Our team is very responsive and we will be there promptly.
If you have found a flying fox on the ground, please put a towel on her and if possible cover her with a box or a laundry basket to ensure that she doesn't move away before our rescuer gets there! Keep dogs and kids away.
If the animal is mobile, please keep an eye on her so we can find her easily.
If the flying fox is caught on barbed wire, place a towel on top to reduce the stress if it is safe to do so. If it is hot, use a wet towel. Do not try to rescue the flying fox yourself and please do not ever release flying foxes until they have been carefully assessed. Often wing membranes are affected but the damage is not apparent for several days. They need to come into care!
A very small number of flying foxes carry lyssavirus. There is no risk if you do not handle them. No touch, no risk!
